10. Swiss International Coaching Project for Choreographers
7. - 22. July 2006 at the Dance Academy in Zurich
Artistic Director: Ginette Laurin
She is the director of the Company O Vertigo from Montreal, Canada, which has been successful for over 20 years. In 1984 she founded this dance company, which quickly gained international recognition. She has choreographed more than 40 pieces and acquired a bachelor degree in art. 1999 she was head of the first <choreography lab> by The Performing Arts Labs in England. Regularly she organises research- and creative workshops with her company covering various themes. In 2004 the City of Montreal gave her a centre of her own with new studios: the "Centre de Creation O Vertigo" (CCOV). She figures among those artists who receive wide spread recognition for advancing today's choreographic language. For her the energy of movement counts as much as its form. www.overtigo.com

Theme: Partnering
The relationship between two dancing bodies is central to her explorations, whether in portés, in sequences in unison or in opposition; she is fascinated by the idea of harmony or synchronism, of symbiosis or antagonism.
In a duet, the dancers carry one another, support each other, in a way that defies the laws of gravity. But it also serves to increase the physical or emotional charge that emanates from a movement. The unity of two performers dancing together gives the movement its strength and provides its resonance.
Throughout SiWiC, she will explore the relationship between two dancing bodies.
- The different ways to shape a choreography using lifts - the figures of the double
- Bodies in contact as a source of duality, opposition, repetition and multiplication
- The verticality and horizontality in the duet...
Seminar
Performing Space by Swiss architect Marianne Burkhalter (www.burkhalter-sumi.ch)
Space itself is defined by surfaces, materials and lights. One perceives the surroundings in relation with the body. It is all about perception, proportion, interaction, density, atmosphere and sensuality. Scale is very significant as well.
The meaning of a room is utterly different if it is high, low, deep, wide or narrow. How do lights, colours and materials specify special quality? Natural light changes a room during the progress of the day - it is diffuse or specular, direct or indirect, continuous or intermittent, intense or mysterious. Artificial light has a very different function. It is added as a complementary element, nevertheless it has a superior significance
