9. - 25. July 2004 at Tanzhaus Zurich
Artistic Director: Mauricio Wainrot (Argentina)
Contents
Tasks will be given that allow discovering a different view of the art of creating dance and enhance the choreographic vocabulary of the participating choreographers. Mauricio Wainrot, internationally renowned choreographer, director and pedagogue is coaching the selected choreographers personally as well as supporting and encouraging them in their individual approach and style. Every day an introduction to a specific task is followed by the work of the participants with dancers given to them in separate studios. Later the results are presented and discussed.

For several years Wainrot was the artistic director of Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, Canada and the Grupo de Danza Contemporanea of Teatro San Martin of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
During the last 15 years more than 35 companies have premiered Wainrot’s works. Among them are the English National Ballet, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in Canada, the Juilliard Dance Ensemble in USA, the Bat Dor Dance Company of Israel and the Staatstheater of Hannover and Wiesbaden, Germany. He has won many awards. His last piece Distant Light was nominated for the international ballet prize, Benois de la Danse 2002. As a guest teacher he worked for the Mudra School in Brussels and at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Künste in Frankfurt.
Theme: Motions and Emotions
How do bodily movements become one
with emotions? By which means are feelings and relationships expressed in
dance? Choreography is based on clear concepts of form and content. From
there movements can be developed and structured. The quality of the energy
used has a big influence on the movement. Thus any kind of choreography
can create emotional situations in dance.
Seminars: Physical and Psychological Stress
Stress and violence are part of the every day situation in dance. A choreographer must be aware of his responsibility towards his dancers. How far can he or she go without hurting them physically and psychologically? Two experts will portray their points of view and explore this cutting edge issue further with the active participation of the choreographers (dancers voluntary). Dr. Liane Simmel, ex-dancer, physician, specialized in dance medicine Dr. Richard Merz, psychoanalyst and dance journalist
